TermExplanationEditorials
IGNEOUS ROCKIgneous Rock Igneous rock is formed from magma far below the surface that solidifies when reaches close to the earth surface and cools.     http://earthsci.orgSearch Editorials
INCLINEIncline An incline is an upward sloping underground tunnel providing access for both mining and exploration, and can also be a connection between different levels within a mine.Search Editorials
INDICATED RESOURCEIndicated Resource A term used to describe the size of an ore body that has had exploration drill holes spaced closely enough together to reasonably indicate that the ore body has a continuous size and depth.  It is therefore reasonable to assume that there is an outline of the mass and potential grade of the ore body or vein.see als Inferred ResourceSearch Editorials
INDUCED POLARIZATIONInduced Polarization geophysical method used to indicate mineralization with the use of an electrical current. Electrical Resistivity : Typically, current (I) is induced between paired electrodes (C1, C2). The potential difference (?V) between paired voltmeter electrodes P1 and P2 is measured. Apparent resistivity (?a) is then calculated (based on I, ?V, electrode spacing). If the current electrode spacing is expanded about a central location, a resistivity/depth sounding can be generated. If the array is expanded and moved along the surface, a resistivity/depth profile can be created. Induced Polarization (IP) : Two types of IP data are generated: frequency domain and time domain. Frequency domain IP data are generated by comparing apparent resistivities as determined for variable frequency input currents. Time domain IP data are generated by measuring rate of decay in potential difference after current flow is terminated. IP measures the capacitive properties of the ground. Often acquired simultaneously with resistivity data. www.fhwa.dot.v/ mine/ky0307.htmSearch Editorials
INFERRED RESOURCEInferred Resource A term used in the early stage of exploration to describe a resource whose size and grade has been estimated on limited sampling data. An inferred resource assumes there is a continuous mineralized body present based on geological evidence, however the actual mass of the mineralization is still unproven.   see als Indicated ResourceSearch Editorials
INTERMEDIATE ROCKIntermediate Rock gneous rock containing anywhere between 52-66% of quartz.Search Editorials
INTRUSIONIntrusion Mass of  igneous rock that has formed by ?injection? of molten rock, or magma, into existing cracks beneath the surface of the Earth, as distinct from a volcanic rock mass which has erupted from the surface.  Intrusion features include vertical cylindrical structures such as stocks, pipes, and necks; sheet structures such as dykes that cut across the strata and sills that push between them; laccoliths, which are blisters that push up the overlying rock; and batholiths, which represent chambers of solidified magma and contain vast volumes of rock.     source:Search Editorials
